दक्षिणा ब्रह्मवादिनी - ऋग्वेद के दसवें मण्डल के 107 वें सूक्त की ऋषिका
ऋग्वेद के दसवें मंडल के 107वें सूक्त की ऋषिका ब्रह्मवादिनी दक्षिणा थीं। उन्होंने दान को बढ़ावा दिया; फलस्वरूप वे स्वयं दक्षिणा नाम से विख्यात हुईं। वेदों के आधार पर, वह उपदेश देती थी, "हे नोरियो! ईश्वर ने तुम्हें बहुत कुछ दिया है। सूर्य प्रकाश और ऊष्मा प्रदान करता है। चंद्रमा तुम्हारी आँखों को कितना आनंदित करता है। वायु तुम्हें हर क्षण जीवन देकर अनंत उपकार कर रही है। पक्षी अपनी मधुर धुनों से तुम्हारे कानों को तृप्त करने के लिए कितना प्रयास कर रहे हैं! नाना प्रकार के फूल तुम्हें मधुर सुगंध दे रहे हैं। क्या ये फलदार वृक्ष तुम्हें फल देते समय मूल्य मांगते हैं? क्या ये शीतल नदियाँ, जब वे जल प्रदान करती हैं, तुमसे कोई प्रतिफल की आशा करती हैं?
हे मेरे प्रिय धनवान बंधुओं! परमपिता ने सभी को एक-दूसरे की सहायता करने के लिए बनाया है। सूर्य की सहायता के बिना पृथ्वी सभी प्रकार के पदार्थों का उत्पादन कैसे कर सकती है? इसी प्रकार, परमात्मा की अकल्पनीय शक्ति के बिना, सूर्य, चंद्रमा, वायु, तारे, पृथ्वी आदि अपने-अपने कार्य नहीं कर सकते। तो जरा सोचो, यह जीवन कितने समय तक चलता है? लक्ष्मी सदैव किसी के पास नहीं रहती। किसे कभी किसी दूसरे की सहायता की आवश्यकता नहीं पड़ी? यदि तुम्हारा पड़ोसी भूख से मर जाए, और तुम उसकी ओर ध्यान न दो और चैन की नींद सो जाओ, तो क्या यह तुम्हारे योग्य है? तुम्हें अपना सामर्थ (धन ) व्यर्थ नहीं गंवाना चाहिए।" अपनी मेहनत की कमाई को बेकार की चीज़ों पर खर्च करो। जो इसके हक़दार हैं, उन्हें दान करो। हे मनुष्यों, तुम्हारा दान निस्वार्थ होना चाहिए।"
अब इनकी रचनाओं का अर्थ देखिए :-
जीवो के कल्याण के लिए सूर्य का यह महत्तेज उतरकर आ रहा है । अन्धकार से सब जीवो की मुक्ति हो गई। जगत्पालक की किरणों के द्वारा सर्वत्र यह महाज्योति फैल गई है। इससे दक्षिणा के विस्तार वाला मार्ग सूचित होता है।
भावार्थ यह है कि जिस प्रकार प्राणियों के कुल कल्याण के लिए पृथ्वी पर सूर्य का महातेज फैल रहा है उसी प्रकार उदार पुरुषों के धन-रूपी तेज का सर्वत्र विस्तार हो। जिस प्रकार सूरज की रोशनी से सब जीव अन्धेरे से मुक्त हो जाते है उसी प्रकार धनवान लोगों के धन से क्षुधा-रूपी अन्धकार में पड़े हुए गरीब लोगों की मुक्ति हो। जिस प्रकार सूरज की किरणें सूर्य की महाज्योति को सब जगह फैला रही हैं उसी प्रकार धनवानों के धन को उनके बन्धु-बान्धवों तथा नौकरों को सत्पात्रों में फैलाना चाहिए। ईश्वर ने हमें सूरज का तेज प्रदान किया है, वह सूचित कर रहा है कि हरेक आदमी को कुछ-न-कुछ दान अवश्य करना चाहिए। सूर्य का तेज यहाँ सिर्फ उदाहरण के तौर पर है। वास्तव में देखा जाय तो ईश्वर की रची हुई सब चीजे उसकी तरफ से हमें मिला हुआ दान ही है। दाता को सब जगह हर कोई बुलाता है। सब जगह वह मुख्य रहता है। दक्षिणावान् (दाता) गाँव का नायक बनकर सबके आगे-आगे चलता है। मनुष्यों जो मनुष्य दान का रास्ता खोलता है मैं तो उसे ही नृपति मानती हूँ ।
ऋषि और ब्रह्मा भी उसे ही कहते है। उसे ही यज्ञनेता और विविध स्तोत्रो का शासक कहते है। जो आदमी दान से अनाथों की आराधना करता है वह अग्नि के तीनों रूपो (आव्हनीय, गार्हपत्य और दक्षिणा) को पहचानता है।

The Rishika Brahmavadini of the 107th Sukta of the Tenth Mandala of the Rigveda was Dakshina. She promoted charity; as a result, she herself became known by the name Dakshina. Based on the Vedas, she used to preach, "O Noriyo! God has blessed you with so many things. The sun provides light and warmth. The moon delights your eyes so much. The air is doing you an infinite favor by giving you life every moment. Birds are making so much effort to satisfy your ears with their sweet melodies! Flowers of various kinds are bringing you sweet fragrance. Do these fruit-bearing trees demand a price when they give you fruit? Do these cool rivers, when they provide water, expect any return from you?
O my dear wealthy brothers! The Supreme Father has made everyone help each other. Without the help of the sun, how could the earth produce all kinds of substances? Similarly, without the inconceivable power of the Supreme Soul, the sun, moon, wind, stars, earth, etc., cannot perform their respective functions. Then just think, how long does this life last? Lakshmi is not always with anyone. Who has never needed help from another? If your neighbor dies of hunger, and you pay no attention to him and sleep peacefully, is this worthy of you? You should not waste your hard-earned money on frivolous things. Donate to those who deserve it. O humans, your giving should be selfless."
Now consider the meaning of his writings:
This great radiance of the sun is descending for the welfare of all beings. All beings have been liberated from darkness. This great light has spread everywhere through the rays of the protector of the world. This indicates the path of expanding Dakshina.
The meaning is that just as the great radiance of the sun is spreading across the earth for the welfare of all beings, so too should the radiance of the wealth of generous people spread everywhere. Just as the sunlight frees all beings from darkness, so too should the wealth of the wealthy liberate the poor trapped in the darkness of hunger. Just as the sun's rays spread the sun's great radiance everywhere, so too should the wealth of the wealthy be distributed among the worthy through their relatives and servants. God has bestowed upon us the radiance of the sun; He indicates that every person must donate something. The radiance of the sun is used here only as an example. In reality, everything created by God is a gift we have received from Him. Everywhere everyone calls the donor. He is the main one. Dakshinavan (donor) becomes the leader of the village and walks ahead of everyone. I consider the person who opens the path of donation among humans as the king.
The sages and Brahma also call him that. He is called the leader of the yagna and the ruler of various hymns. The person who worships the orphans through donation recognizes the three forms of Agni (Aavhaniya, Garhapatya and Dakshina).
