देवकुंड औरंगाबाद जिला में अवस्थित एक विशेष महत्त्व का धार्मिक स्थल है जिसका संबंध देवों के देव परमपिता परमेश्वर महादेव, भगवान् राम , भगवान् कृष्ण, भगवान् परशुराम, महर्षि च्यवन, महर्षि कपिल से है। साथ हीं चारों युग सतयुग , त्रेता , द्वापर और कलियुग से भी है।
देवकुंड धाम में स्थापित नीलाभ शिवलिंग का सम्बन्ध सतयुग में हुई अमृत मंथन से है। समुद्र मंथन के उपरांत देवताओं ने मथानी बनी मंदार पर्वत को अभी के बिहार राज्य के भागलपुर संभाग के अंतर्गत बांका जिले के बौंसी में स्थापित किया एवं शिव द्वारा संसार की रक्षा हेतु कालकूट विष पीने और उसके कारण नीले हुए शरीर के सम्मान में अभी के देवकुंड धाम में नीलम रत्न की नीलाभ शिवलिंग की स्थापना की।
त्रेता युग में भगवान् राम ने भी यहाँ के नीलाभ शिवलिंग की पूजा अर्चना की थी जब वो अपने पितरों का पिंडदान करने गया जी धाम गए थे। इसके बाद एक प्रथा सी बन गई थी कि पिंडदान के बाद नीलाभ शिवलिंग की अभ्यर्थना करने से पूर्ण फल की प्राप्ति होती है जो कालांतर में मुसलमानी शासन में बंद हो गई।
द्वापर युग में भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण ने भी जरासंध वध हेतु राजगीर जाने के क्रम में अर्जुन और भीम के साथ यहाँ आकर नीलाभ शिवलिंग की अभ्यर्थना कर विजय का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त किया था।
पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार महर्षि च्यवन ने इस शिवलिंग की आराधना कर ज्ञान विज्ञान को अर्जित कर च्यवनप्राश का निर्माण किया था जिसमें वृद्ध जान को भी पुनः युवावस्था प्रदान करने की क्षमता थी। आज जो च्यवनप्राश बनता है वह उसी से प्रेरित है। पुरे विश्व में नीलम का शिवलिंग सिर्फ देवकुंड धाम में है। महर्षि कपिल की भी यहां समाधी है।
मंदिर का नाम दूधेश्वर नाथ क्यों है ?
मंदिर का नाम दूधेश्वर नाथ होने के पीछे किवदंती यह है कि पहले यहाँ एक टीला हुआ करता था जहाँ गायें स्वयं दूध देती थीं। वही दूध शिवलिंग पर अर्पित करने की प्रथा से इसका नाम दूधेश्वर नाथ पड़ा। दूध का अभिषेक करने से संतान प्राप्ति की भी मान्यता है।
देवकुंड (देवकुंड) गाँव एक दिलचस्प पौराणिक कहानी से जुड़ा है। हिंदू पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, एक बार भगवान विश्वकर्मा को एक रात में तीन मंदिर बनाने के लिए कहा गया था। इन तीनों मंदिरों का डिज़ाइन एक जैसा है और इनके अंदर एक छोटा तालाब भी है। सिर्फ़ इतना फ़र्क है कि देवकुंड (देवकुंड) में तालाब की चौथी साइड की दीवार नहीं है, जिसे भगवान विश्वकर्मा सूरज उगने पर पूरा नहीं कर पाए थे। आज के समय में, ये तीन मंदिर बिहार में देव, देवकुंड और उमगा में हैं। इन तीन शहरों में से दो, यानी देव और उमगा में सूर्य मंदिर हैं और देवकुंड में भगवान शिव मंदिर (बाबा दूधेश्वर नाथ) है। हजारों साल पहले, यह ऋषि च्यवन की तपस्या की जगह थी। इस जगह को च्यवन ऋषि की ध्यान की जगह के तौर पर जाना जाता है। एक और संत, स्वामी बालपुरी ने भी च्यवन के आश्रम को अपनी ध्यान की जगह बनाया था। अपनी ध्यान की जगह पूरी करने के बाद, उन्होंने हवन कुंड में खुद को जला लिया, आत्मदाह कर लिया और हमेशा के लिए अमर हो गए। कहा जाता है कि तब से हवन कुंड हमेशा जलता रहता है। यही इस जगह की खासियत है।
बाबा दूधेश्वर नाथ मंदिर में पूजा करने के लिए सालो भर लोग आते हैं। लेकिन सावन माह में यहां लाखों की संख्या में श्रद्धालु पहुंचते हैं। पटना से गंगाजल लेकर 120 किमी की दूरी तयकर कांवरिये देवकुंड पहुंचते हैं। बिहार से झारखंड के अलग हो जाने के बाद क्षेत्र में प्रसिद्ध बाबा दूधेश्वर नाथ मंदिर में पटना गायघाट से कांवड़ में गंगाजल लेकर बाबा दूधेश्वर नाथ पर जलाभिषेक करने के लिए कांवर यात्रा शुरू हुई थी।
देवकुंड औरंगाबाद और अरवल के बॉर्डर से 10 km दक्षिण-पूर्व में स्थित है।

Dudheshwar Nath Mandir Deokund Dham Aurangabad
Devkund, located in Aurangabad district, is a religious site of special significance, associated with Lord Shiva, Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, Lord Parshuram, Maharishi Chyavan, and Maharishi Kapil. It is also connected to all four Yugas: Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapar Yuga, and Kali Yuga.
The Neelabh Shivling established at Devkund Dham is related to the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan) that took place in Satya Yuga. After the churning of the ocean, the gods established the Mandara mountain, which was used as the churning rod, in Bansi, Banka district, under the Bhagalpur division of present-day Bihar. In honor of Shiva drinking the Kalakuta poison to protect the world and his body turning blue as a result, a Neelam (sapphire) Shivling was established at the present-day Devkund Dham.
In Treta Yuga, Lord Rama also worshipped the Neelabh Shivling here when he went to Gaya Dham to perform the Pind Daan (ancestral rites) for his ancestors. After this, it became a tradition that worshipping the Neelabh Shivling after performing Pind Daan would grant complete fulfillment, a practice that was later discontinued during Muslim rule.
In Dwapar Yuga, Lord Krishna, along with Arjuna and Bhima, also visited this place while on their way to Rajgir to kill Jarasandha. They worshipped the Neelabh Shivling and received blessings for victory.
According to mythology, Maharishi Chyavan worshipped this Shivling, acquired knowledge and science, and created Chyawanprash, which had the power to restore youthfulness even to the elderly. The Chyawanprash made today is inspired by it. A sapphire Shivling exists only at Devkund Dham in the entire world. Maharishi Kapil's Samadhi (tomb) is also located here.
Why is the temple named Dudheshwar Nath?
The legend behind the name Dudheshwar Nath is that there used to be a mound here where cows would spontaneously give milk. The practice of offering that milk to the Shivling led to the name Dudheshwar Nath. It is also believed that offering milk to the Shivling grants the blessing of children.
Devkund village is associated with an interesting mythological story. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishwakarma was once asked to build three temples in a single night. All three temples have a similar design and each contains a small pond. The only difference is that the pond in Devkund lacks the fourth wall, which Lord Vishwakarma was unable to complete before sunrise. Today, these three temples are located in Deva, Devkund, and Umga in Bihar. Two of these cities, Deva and Umga, have Sun temples, while Devkund houses a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva (Baba Dudheshwar Nath). Thousands of years ago, this was the site of penance for Sage Chyavana. The place is known as the meditation site of Rishi Chyavana. Another saint, Swami Balpuri, also made Chyavana's ashram his place of meditation. After completing his meditation, he immolated himself in the Havan Kund (sacrificial fire pit) and attained eternal life. It is said that since then, the Havan Kund has remained perpetually burning. This is the unique feature of this place.
People visit the Baba Dudheshwar Nath temple throughout the year for worship. However, during the month of Shravan, millions of devotees arrive here. Kanwariyas (devotees carrying holy water) travel 120 km from Patna, carrying Ganga water, to reach Devkund. After the separation of Bihar and Jharkhand, the Kanwar Yatra (pilgrimage) to the famous Baba Dudheshwar Nath temple, carrying Ganga water from Patna's Gaighat, began.
Devkund is located 10 km southeast of the border between Aurangabad and Arwal districts.
